Oyster/Clam Advisory Committee Meeting

Colonial Beach, VA — The Potomac River Fisheries Commission Oyster/Clam Advisory Committee, which is comprised of private citizens and industry representatives, will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in the John T. Parran Hearing Room of the PRFC building, Colonial Beach, Virginia.

Items on the agenda will include, but may not be limited to: a recap of the December 4th Commission meeting, a preview of the upcoming January 19th special Commission meeting, review results of the oyster survey (Beacon, Horseshoe and Pope’s Creek), and a discussion and recommendation(s) for possible mitigation options in response to the closure of several lower river oyster bars.

Any recommendations developed by this committee will be forwarded to the Potomac River Fisheries Commission for consideration prior to implementation. The next Commission meeting is a special meeting scheduled for January 19, 2016 to address oyster issues.

The Potomac River Fisheries Commission coordinates regulations with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, (DGIF) and with the other Atlantic coastal states through the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC).
