    PRFC Blue Crab Advisory Committee to Meet May 19, 2016

    The PRFC announced today that the next meeting of the PRFC Blue Crab Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, May 19, 2015 at 6 PM at PRFC headquarters, located at 222 Taylor Street, Colonial Beach, VA 22443. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. The agenda includes an update on crab harvest and the 2015/2016 winter crab dredge survey results. There will be a discussion on the current season and possible management responses for the 2016/2017 crab management year (July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017). The Committee will also discuss the following issues: Bay wide jurisdictional management and quotas, electronic harvest reporting, oyster leasing impacts to crabbing areas, the concept of a senior sport crabbing license, beneficiaries for commercial licensees, presentations on female crab fecundity and the disappearance of the 2011 year class, and a vacancy on the Blue Crab Advisory Committee for a lower river peeler potter. This meeting is open to the public, and all interested persons are invited to attend. The Potomac River Fisheries Commission coordinates regulations with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, (DGIF) and with the other Atlantic coastal states through the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC).
